Key Highway, Baltimore

Description:
Key Highway is located in the historic district of Baltimore City known as the Inner Harbor. The project site presented many challenges as it is popular with locals and visitors, enjoying the waterfront and local attractions. Because of the historic nature of the area as a former industrial site for shipbuilding and steel mills, the underground work presented its own challenges.

This project consisted of the intersection of Key Highway and Light Street, the reconstruction of Key Highway from Light Street to Battery Avenue, on Light Street from Lee Street to Montgomery Street, and on Key Highway from Battery Avenue to Covington Street.

The work consisted of the following:

  • Intersection reconfiguration
  • Pavement reconstruction
  • Asphalt milling and overlay
  • Construction of curb & gutter and sidewalks
  • Construction of ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps, sidewalks, and driveway/alley
    entrances
  • Construction of concrete bus pads
  • Signing and pavement markings
  • Signal reconstruction
  • Street lighting
  • Construction of new storm-drain pipes, inlets, and storm water management facilities
  • Landscaping and furnishing elements
  • Construction of conduits and electrical manholes
