April 1, 2020 UPDATE
It seems every day we learn more about COVID-19. Given Governor Hogan’s current efforts to slow the spread of the virus, the seriousness of the current state is clear. At M Luis Construction and M Luis Products Companies we are constantly evaluating and reevaluating our operating practices to ensure the safety of our employees, customers and vendors. At this time, both of our asphalt plants and all of our construction crews are working.
Following is a summary of actions we are taking to keep us all safer in the days and weeks ahead.
Most of our office and administrative staff are working remotely from their homes. Elayne, our receptionist, will be glad to direct you to any company representative if you call our main number 410-545-0641. Company meetings are now facilitated through Zoom or Microsoft Teams platforms. If you call our support staff, please be patient if dogs are barking or children are crying in the background – this is the new white noise. The office is disinfected several times a day by wiping down all hard surfaces and door handles to protect our employees if they need to pick up materials.
We have initiated several new procedures to minimize personal contact at our Rockville and Glen Burnie asphalt plants to maintain adequate social distancing. Truck drivers and vendors are no longer permitted to enter our dispatch offices. Physical safeguards are now in place at our customer ticket windows to create barriers between individuals. Ticket drop boxes are in place for drivers making aggregate deliveries. Several times a day, plant personnel disinfect the offices by wiping down hard surfaces and door handles. All employee work stations have been positioned at least 6-feet apart to maintain adequate social distancing.
M Luis Construction crews are also operating under new procedures and social distancing guidelines. Our employees must commute to jobsites in separate vehicles unless they live in the same household. Equipment operators are required to disinfect their equipment’s cab and controls after each shift. We limit the number of people on our jobsite by restricting access of non-essential personnel and visitors. Crews are working in open environments and are now taking work breaks in shifts to minimize the social interaction and maintain 6-foot social distancing. M Luis also adheres to a policy of no sharing of personal protective equipment.
I want to recognize all M Luis employees for their focus and dedication to keeping our business moving forward safely in this very challenging environment. Keeping us all safe and healthy is out top priority. We all appreciate the loyalty of our customers, owners and vendors for your continued support.
