St. Christopher’s is joining the Injury Free Coalition for Kids (IFCK) in launching the first ever annual National Injury Prevention Day on November 18, 2020. Help us raise awareness about the significance of childhood injury and advocate for prevention. Doctors, nurses, and community outreach personnel at Level I Trauma Centers around the country will join forces that day to address the injuries most prevalent in their communities. City landmarks across the country will shine green lights as a reminder to keep safety top of mind.
Here in Philadelphia, St. Christopher’s is the only hospital to host a local chapter and Injury Free Site. Here is what’s happening:
The Injury Free Coalition for Kids is a national program comprised of hospital-based and community-oriented programs whose efforts are anchored in research, education and advocacy. Currently, the Coalition includes more than 30 sites, each housed in the trauma center of their participating institution.
For more details, visit injuryfree.org.Did you know injuries are the leading cause of death and disability for U.S. children up to age 18? St. Christopher’s has a long history of community outreach, visiting schools and community centers to share a wide range of safety information and programs. We are hosting an Injury Free Site because safety and prevention dovetails with our mission to treat the whole child with comprehensive services that break the cycles of food insecurity, violence, injury and childhood illness. We have partnered with Injury Free Coalition for Kids since 2005 and our Injury Prevention Day efforts will be led by Rochelle Thompson, MS, CPST, our Injury Prevention Coordinator in the Trauma Department.
